As a Canadian living among Americans, I can say the most common/annoying thing I hear said about hockey is "I can't follow the action, the puck is too small, the game is too fast!".

Comcast has formally submitted a two-year bid in excess of $100 million US to televise NHL games beginning this fall, sources directly involved in the discussions told the Inquirer in Tuesday's edition.

The deal calls for Comcast to televise two games a week nationally. The cable giant plans to put the games on its on its Outdoor Life Network, which is also available in Canada.

That's more money than ESPN wanted to give, even before the lockout. I think long-term, the league would be better off on ESPN, since it would be exposed to much more people. Does anyone actually watch the Outdoor Life Network?

Exactly. By the way, ESPN has the right to match the deal, I really hope they do. At least they have experience covering hockey, i.e. cameras, announcers, instant replay, etc. OLN sounds like it's covered by a dude with a handicam. 

I doubt ESPN will though. They seemed less than interested when the NHL offered before. I think it's a mistake by espn if they do pass though. The new rules in hockey are going to increase the goals per game average through the roof.

Higher scoring = more interested fans. 

I dunno as low as hockey's profile has fallen, I think there's a chance ESPN will match just because I think it will look bad for the network if they lose out to some upstart competitor.
