Crocodile Dundee came out in 1986.
You know what else came out in 1986?

Aliens
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Highlander
Labyrinth

And Crocodile Dundee made more money in the US than all of those movies combined.
www.the-numbers.com/movies/index1986.php

So even though people cry that America's getting dumber ever year, it's clear that the nation actually reached its idiotic nadir in 1986.

And that's why Crocodile Dundee got a screenplay nomination.

Yeah, the trailer plays like Gremlins or Back to the Future, since it's a Zemekis film. It even feels like that kind of movie - until about halfway through.

You did leave 2 films off your list for 1986

Top Gun
Platoon

People today forget how big Platoon was back then, it did win Best Picture.

Other "less successful" pics from 1986 that stand the test of time

Blue Velvet
Big Trouble in Little China
The Hitcher
The Fly
Heartbreak Ridge
Manhunter (Original version of Red Dragon and first onscreen Dr Lector)
Stand By Me
Sid and Nancy

All of which I consider better than Croc

Manhunter rocked!

One of Michael Mann's best films!

Head CSI dude was the star William what's his name and dude who played. And the guy who played the Tooth Fairy was awesome! I should have been him for Halloween, not one would get it though, but it would be creepy.
